ChemClass conference being organized by the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Zaria Chapter brings together chemists and scientists in related subjects from across the nation and the globe, to share research findings, have comprehensive cross-disciplinary exchange of technical knowledge, discuss global problems and also proffer solutions.
The 15th ChemClass Conference was held via virtual platform on 7th and 8th September 2022.
The theme of the conference is ‘Chemical Science and Technology in Economic Recovery of the
Solid Mineral Sector in the Post COVID-19 Era’.
The host and Chairman, CSN Zaria Chapter, Prof. K.I. Omoniyi welcomed the dignitaries among whom are: the National President, CSN, Prof. M.N. Chendo; the DVPNW, Prof. C.E. Gimba; the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala,; the Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Olufemi Peters; the DG/CEO, NILEST, Prof. M.K. Yakubu; DG/CEO NARICT, Prof. J.T. Barminas; Provost, FCE, Zaria; Rector, NBP, Zaria; the National President, Science Association of Nigeria and the Head, Department of Chemistry, ABU Zaria.
The keynote address speaker was Mr Tunde M. Arisekola FNMGS, Senior Advisor, Geological and Mineral Information, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. And the the guest speakers were Prof. Baba A. Alafara FCSN, FMSN, MTMS (USA) of the Department of Industrial Chemistry, University of Ilorin, Ilorin and Prof. Olusegun A. Ajayi MMSN, MNSChE, MNSE, COREN of the Department of Chemical Engineering, ABU, Zaria.
A total of fifty scientific papers were presented at the virtual conference, covering all areas of chemistry 2022.
The efforts of the organizing committee chaired by Mrs. U.J. Okoduwa is highly commended for the successful hosting of the event. The conference was insightful and our participants were exposed to the untapped opportunities in the solid mineral sector and how they can leverage on the existing opportunities.
